September 2020
Photography by Mike Force Photography
Years ago, my mother taught me an easy embroidery stitch to create one-of-a-kind card stock tiny houses. Designed as gift boxes, I stuff socks, winter gloves, or chocolates in them to create smiles. I use my Nana Millen’s postcards from the early twentieth century of which I have hundreds. She was the one who taught my mom. How do you like this one?
#CreativeMinds is Paisley’s theme for September. We’ve got inspirational local creatives for you to meet. There’s Nancy and Bobby Haven, living their creative dreams of salvage re-cycling while gaining a big following; Watercolorist and beadwork artisan Jodi Gregory, who carefully sews each bead into her jewelry and wall hangings — how about that? And meet The Island Newcomers — local specialists in creative socialization and comradery. Yes, all amazing folks!
And, on September 26, we hope you will join Paisley and Pink Magazine staffers for our Artsy Partsy with nationally known illustrator and author Jill Badonsky’s on-line Wobbly Mandela Party©—our first virtual event in magazine history! See details page 12.
Enjoy your creative September read and see you September 26th-
