Can a bra be an art medium? Absolutely!
Far more than functional clothing, a bra can be a bold and beautiful artistic creation that conveys powerful messages about breast cancer—such as awareness, hope, empowerment and strength.
The bras created for the annual ARTrageous Bras fundraiser do that and more. The Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation hosts this fun, dynamic annual event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “ARTrageous is an incredible, attention-grabbing event to increase awareness for breast cancer and raise funds for the Health System’s cancer care programs,” said Krista Robitz, Director, Development, Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation. “The creativity is amazing and voting becomes very competitive as individuals and teams try to keep their bras in the top ten for the live auction. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support the Health System and have a good time.”

What’s involved?
An individual, group, or business acquires a bra from the Foundation for $25; decorates the bra in a theme of their choosing; and returns the bra to the Foundation. While the deadline to submit an entry for this year’s ARTrageous Bras has already passed, the opportunity to participate as a voter or sponsor is still available.

From October 1-31, the embellished bras are on display at the Brunswick and Camden campuses and on the Foundation’s online gallery. During this time, the public is encouraged to cast $1 votes for their favorite design(s). Votes can be placed in person at the Foundation’s office, or online at wearethefoundation.org/ARTrageous.

After hosting the event in a virtual format the last two years, Krista is thrilled to share that they will return to an in-person event this year, “While the online virtual events during COVID-19 were successful, we missed the personal connections, laughter and amazement expressed over the beauty and creativity of the bras,” Krista said. “We so appreciate all the efforts put into creating the ARTrageous bras, and it is so meaningful for us to be able to share them with everyone.”

The top 10 bras receiving the most votes will be modeled at the ARTrageous Bras live auction, and the remaining bras are placed in the silent auction. The event, which is open to the community, takes place during the popular First Friday in Historic Downtown Brunswick on Friday, November 4 from 6:00–7:30 p.m., at the Ritz Theatre, 1530 Newcastle Street.
